But first, why is the summer gone? I swear, one day it was June and summer was in full swing, and the next day it was September. A rainy, gloomy September. I'm not sure where all those days went. . . okay, it may have had something to do with how busy this summer was. Libertycon and DragonCon, summer activities with the family, and ALL the writing. For all that it went past in the blink of an eye, it really was a great summer. I'm still probably going to sulk for at least a week because it's officially too cold to swim, boo! Bright side, the kids went back to school and my house is quiet again, yay!! They actually went back to school a month ago, but I was so busy I had to let these blog posts slip to save what was left of my sanity, so here we are!
So what have I been working on this summer? Secrets! Exciting fun secrets that I can't wait to tell you about when the time is right. Since I can't spill the beans just yet, how about I tell you about my newest release?
Shadows May Fall is my first Urban Fantasy novel and it's one of my favorite stories. Set in the Hit World: Valkyries universe, it has all the snarky adventure that I love in the genre. And guess what? You can get the paperback of Shadows May Fall now! That's right, we did a surprise drop last week, so if physical copies are your thing, you can grab it here:
If you're more of an ebook kind of reader, it comes out this Friday, Sep 20, but you can pre-order is now!!
Did I mention it's really Urban Fantasy Romance? That's right! Enemies to lovers, slow burn, all the angst!! Athena can't decide whether Sebastian is the biggest asshole who ever lived or the hottest, and really, can you blame the poor girl? The answer is both, in case you were wondering LOL
I bet you noticed Shadows May Fall is book 2 in the series. It can be read as a standalone, but why would you deprive yourself of the snarky joy that is Marisa Wolf's Valkyrie's Chosen?!
Her story follows Bryn, who is very much the Nick Fury of the Valkyries universe. She'll appear in other Valkyries novels (like mine), and much like Marisa Wolf, Bryn is a freaking DELIGHT. It's twisty, turny Urban Fantasy that will keep you guessing until the very end and I am ALL THE SMUG that I got to be one of the first readers (I have the best friends ya'll no lie). I know you don't want to miss out, so get it here and be all the smug with me!
If you want to find out how Athena and Sebastian first met, you can check out The Valkyries Iniative antho. My story, Angel Wings and Demon Bones, won the 2023 Imajinn Award for Best Short Story, and was so much fun to write. You can get it and 14 other amazing stories about the kickass women who just might save the world (or end it) here:
Before I go, how about a snippet I haven't shared to FB yet? I'll drop it there later this week, but you guys get first access because you're awesome and signed up for my newsletter LOL
Snippet 3:
The woman glided forward a few steps, her stunning eyes focused on me. The small hairs on the back of my neck stood up. There was nothing human in those eyes.
“You know our name, don’t you, child?”
I opened my mouth, but the name caught in my throat. I didn’t want to say it, didn’t want to make it real. It was a stupid reaction. Whether I said it or not, she was obviously real and the single most powerful being I’d ever faced in my short, soon to be over, life.
Sebastian was like a mountain in a windstorm—completely oblivious and utterly unimpressed. “Feel free to dial down the creepy at any point, lady.”
My fingers twitched, desperate to grab onto kaval and spin it into my armor, but she held it in an iron grip. I bared my teeth in a snarl. Fine. Bring it, bitch.
“Sluagh,” I spat defiantly. Once I said the word, others followed, as if a dam had disintegrated under the pressure. “Soul Eater. Destroyer of Worlds. Evil Bitch. I can go on, if you want.”
“Fuck,” Sebastian muttered and drew a second gun. “Knew I should’ve grabbed the shotgun from the trunk.”
That's it for now, but remember you can follow me on Instagram (salvagebunny) and hang out with me on Facebook (Melissa Olthoff) for daily shenanigans! Until next time, folks!
