So there I was, minding my own business, having a great time at LibertyCon, when I got majorly DUCKED -- and it was the coolest, awesomest, most kick@ss thing that has ever happened to me as an author. Super reader Travis Cox and upcoming author Charlie Cox came up with a brilliant idea to prank me and enlisted my evil twin Nick Steverson to help. That motherchucker enlisted half the dang con (I'm exaggerating, but first rule of stories, 10% truth, the other is starting with "so there I was") to sneak little rubber ducks to me all Friday. There was some serious ninja shit happening, because I would turn to look one way, look back, and there would be a new duck sitting on my phone, in my drink, inside a closed bag. My personal favorite was when Travis sneakily launched one across the entire hotel lobbey. It was a baby duck, and it landed at my feet and SQUEAKED. I died. Then there were no more ducks all day Saturday, and I was sad. Until I walked into my hotel room and discovered ducks EVERYWHERE. I don't remember how many there were total, but there were glowsticks and a duck pool and every kind of rubber duck imaginable. And all because my 4HU dropship pilot had the callsign "Ducky". . . and possibly because there was a running joke throughout Companions in Chains involving vibrating rubber ducks . . . and DEFINITELY because I have the coolest awesomest most amazing friends ever!!
When I got home, my kids stole the ducks before I even managed to get out of the car. They've had duck pool parties, they've claimed favorites, my husband even got me a solar-powered glowing duck for our pool. So. Freaking. Awesome. Speaking of awesome, I'm mostly alive again after an incredibly insanely busy two. . . four. . . okay, this is why we don't do Time Math. This whole year has been crazy, and the past two months have been A LOT. It's why I had to let the blog post slip for a little bit, because my family deserve my attention, and so does my day job. Deserve? Require? One of those two. Regardless, you can only juggle so many balls in the air as a working author. Learning how to prioritize those tasks can take time, and sometimes those priorities change mid-juggle. It's fine, flexibility is the key to air power and all that. There's a flexibility joke and a "so to speak" in there somewhere, but I'm going to skip past it to tell you more awesome things!
First off, check out the GORGEOUS covers!!
The Valkyries has officially been kicked off with the release of Marisa Wolf's freaking amazeballs Valkyrie's Chosen. It's so dang good!! I had to stop reading halfway through to yell at her because she's an EVIL GENIUS. You can find it here:
After I finally got over what she did (and you know you want to find out), I polished up my Valkyries novel so everything lines up. That'll come out mid-September, and I cannot WAIT for you to get more Athena and Sebastian. Next up was the release of the first anthology in Kacey Ezell's epic space opera universe, Ashes of Entecea. Remnants of Empire gives you 13 amazing stories by 15 awesome authors -- and Nick Steverson and I teamed up to give you a feisty Irish Princess, an arrogant Viking Bastard, and a marriage competition that doesn't quite go according to plan. You can find that one here:
And coming this Friday, Aug 2, is the fourth book in the incredible Bill Fawcett's Blood and Armor series, Forlorn Hope, by Casey Moores and me!! I was so honored to be asked to contribute to this series. A reader asked me to sell him on it in nine words or less. My brain spat out: Powered armor. Epic battles. Made our editor cry. I mean, none of that's wrong, but if you want to get a better explanation, you can start with book one, Never Again, here:
You can also check out the SUPER FUN podcast Casey and I did with H.P. Holo last night!!
Speaking of AWESOME podcasts, you can also check out my friends H.Y. Gregor and David Shadoin on their new podcast, Worlds Asunder. The first two episodes feature the amazing and ridiculously talented Katie Cross!!
That's it for this time, folks. I've got two new novels to start with two different amazing coauthors (yes, I have secrets LOL), but I'll tell you one for free. Space Hyenas book 4, Capers and Chaos, with Nick Steverson, has officially begun. Mwahahahaha!!
